Krisp: The Best Noise Cancelling App

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

Have you ever been in an unpleasant position when you were told to mute your microphone during a virtual meeting? I have been there and let me tell you, it's not fun. That happens to the best of us as recently more and more people are working from the comfort of their home. However, while doing so, The participants on the other end may get to hear your neighbor mowing lawn, your kids crying, or any background noise that has no place in such meeting. Say goodbye to that and say hello to Krisp, an online noise cancelling pc app that is here to make meetings and calls noiseless.

What is Krisp?

Krisp is a desktop noise-canceling application. It muffles your online calls, allowing you to communicate more effectively. It filters out background noise from other call participants as well as noise from you to them. It is an AI-powered software that during your conference calls turns off any background noises. This can come pretty handy especially for those who have to take virtual calls on a day-to-day basis and noise is just part of their surroundings.

How does it work?

The AI used hundreds of hours of audio to learn how to discriminate between human voice and undesired background noises when developing the Krisp app. As a result, you now have a software that can automatically filter out all noise in your surroundings leaving out nothing but human voice.

Does it have voice cancellation for non-speakers?

The answer is yes. At first, Krisp used to mute all the background noise and leave only the human voice. However, upon realizing that voices of non-participants can also act as unwanted noise, the developer added a feature called "Voice Cancellation" where the voice of non-participants can be mute as well.

Is it safe?

Given how big digital corporations steal your data without your consent and use it to make money, it's only logical to be concerned about the security of Krisp, as the consequences of crucial data falling into the wrong hands may be catastrophic. The company has made it clear that our privacy is of the highest importance to them. During the call, the noise cancellation is handled locally on the smartphone. So there are no clouds or servers where the audio data is transferred or stored.

Is it free?

Well, the answer is yes and no. Yes in the sense that you can opt for a free plan where you could use the app for 120 minutes a week to mute the noise on both ends. However, if you choose to pay for it you get to use it with no time limitation on 3 devices.

How is the pricing?

Considering there are no products out there like Krisp with noise as well as voice cancellation, it may be surprising to know that it costs only $3.33 per month if you go for annual subscription. However, it will cost you $5 a month if paid monthly.
